What is the Mastery Experience really about anyway?

Here is my take on it. Mastery is about becoming present to who you are, who and what is around you and what you think about all that. Confusing? Let me simplify it, it is about “seeing” more clearly.

Starting to see yourself as more than the thoughts in your head and the emotions that follow, more than the judgments you hear or give, more than just the point of view that you hold because you decided something, often as a child. “I will never be like you”, or “I want to be just like you” are the kinds of things we decide – often about our parents or other family members.

The Mastery Experience is about starting to see yourself, and others, in the present moment, and to letting go of views based on the past. To open up the present to being different from the past by letting go of thoughts and beliefs that have been keeping you stuck: from your past experiences, things others told you were true, to the mysterious “I just know that “ stuff.

After all there were times in History when brilliant people would have bet their life savings on the world being flat, or the Earth being the center of the universe, or that there is no life on other planets ……
Hard to say what things we believe, either as a culture, or as individuals, that will turn out to be just as wrong.(O.K. so we don’t know if life on other planets is true or not, some people even question what we have on this planet –those ones I suggest take Mastery :) ).

If you are in a Mastery group, keep being open to seeing those in your group and giving feedback, as uncluttered by judgements as possible. And, to receiving feedback as cleanly as possible – it is so much easier for others to see the box we are in, because they are outside of it.
If not in a group, send an Email to your contact list asking for feedback –what strengths do you see, areas for improvement, what job do you think I would be ideal at, what am I not seeing that you think is important. Heck, you can do an exercise like this at your group as well.
Keep connecting with others as deeply as you can. Keep seeing and allowing your authentic self to be seen as well.

A wise person once said: “ It is silly to hide from those who can’t see you because they can’t see you. It is even sillier to hide from those who can see you.”

I see you and I love what I see. You are perfect just the way you are, and I am so glad we are part of this community together. Keep growing.

Be well,
James Downie
